Location Confirmation

Location Confirmation and Meeting with Grant Bridgeman

A few days ago we received confirmation of the location for the first section of shooting for our short film, which will take place between the 11th and 15th of March. The location in question is ‘Roe Deer Cottage’, a holiday let on the outskirts of Lincoln City Centre. As we are unable to visit the location until the first day of recording, we thought up any problems recording in this location may cause:

  • Roe Deer “COTTAGE” suggests that the location may have low ceilings, which will obviously be a problem when using the boom pole. When looking at the pictures advertised on the internet, this doesn’t seem to be an issue; however we will bare this in mind to ensure we are fully prepared on the day.
  • Being a holiday let, there is a possibility of families with children and/or pets which could be occasionally present in the background of the recording. As with any location, this problem cannot be helped, however it would be possible to politely ask the family when they may be out so that any particularly quiet scenes that may be affected by such background noise can be shot then.

One would-be issue we already know will not affect us is general background noise from a city centre. The Cottage is set in its own land, down a dirt track roughly a mile long. We know that this is the only property within at least a half mile radius, and so there are no roads or public walkways that will create any noise.

After confirming the location, we set up a meeting with Grant Bridgeman, a professional sound recordist who occasionally provides guest lectures at the university. Hopefully he can provide us with a good insight in to what problems we may face, both technical and practical, so that we can overcome these with ease when on location.
